Are People Addicted To Talking?

3 Aug

On any given day, you can find me dodging, running, ducking, and hiding from talkers all day long.  At the gym, at the coffeepot, in my cubical, at the grocery store…everywhere!

It’s not that I don’t like talking.  I do!  I have a pretty active social life and love chatting with my friends.

My problem is when people don’t know when to make an exit.

There are those people at work that everyone avoids.  Not because they don’t like them, but because they talk WAY too much.

I don’t mind a quickie by the water cooler, but once I start to back away, cut it off.  Okay?

If I’m huffing and puffing on the treadmill at the gym, I don’t want to hear about what your wife is going to make you for dinner tonight.  I think you’re a really nice person and all, but I just want to get my workout over with!

I hate getting cornered in my cubical.  Then there’s no escape.  Where do you back away to if you’re already backed into a 5’x5′ cubical?

I just want to shout, “You’re at work!  You shouldn’t be talking all day!”.

On that note, how many thousands, millions, billions of dollars of work hours are these people wasting every day?!  I’m no angel and must confess to an overly long chat with my work wife/husband every now and then, but not hours every day.

Like I said, I’m a social person, but some people just don’t know when to stop!

Do any of you know those people that just WON’T HUSH UP?

Haha.. once in a while I get into chatty moods, but I definitely get a hint when someone starts backing away.

LMAO! I know exactly what you are talking about.! I share an office with a talker… She’s an older lady and she is so sweet, so I just smile and nod! 🙂

Ack, I know exactly what you mean. I share an office with this guy and he talks all the time and very worst part is he is SO LOUD. He’ll be on the phone for an hour with someone just chatting away and it’s a bit challenging to get anything done with his loud voice in my ear.

    Yes, I can completely relate.

    I totally get it.

And then you get those awkward moments where the person is going on and on and on and then they ask you a question, but you weren’t listening to a thing they were rambling about. Ugh!

You clearly didn’t notice that my eyes were glazing over and I was on continuous uh-huh-mode.

    Common sense people, common sense.

This is so true. My whole DAY is talking, talking, talking to kids, which is great, but when breaks from talking come, I savor them. I eat lunch alone in my classroom and some of my coworkers think I’m anti-social. I’m not. I’m just. sick. of. talking!
