Great list! I think I’ll be referring back to this when my motivation wanes! The worst part for me is just getting started again after I slack off for a week. Once I get into my routine, I love going because, like you said, it gives me a ton of energy, and I just love the sensation of – oh, i don’t know – BREATHING when I’m wearing clothes?

Thank you for this post! My friend A whines every time we do weight training. “Isn’t this machine for boys? Are you sure I won’t get muscles like a boy?” My mother tried the Curves diet (not just the workout but the planned-out diet too) and got down to a size 6! She weighed 160 but was a size 6! She had some pretty impressive muscles when she’d flex ‘em (show off!), but she didn’t look man-ish at all. Weight training is great!

You sound like me! My credit card woes all started when I moved into my apartment and just HAD to decorate! It really is something that is hard to walk away from. I was able to pay cash for my furniture, and I still charged my cards up to their limits buying lamps, bed necessities, photos, you name it!

Oh, gosh! I don’t get it either! I kept a tube TV until my parents gave me a new LCD one for my birthday a year and a half ago.

I can understand the draw of flat screens because they’re more visually appealing than huge tube TVs. But I cannot wrap my head around HD versus non-HD. D actually told me when he first moved in that my non-HDTV “hurt his eyes.” Give me a break! I can hardly tell a difference! Must be a guy thing.

I totally re-gift bags! I kept, like, every bag given to me in high school and continued using them through college. Who cares about the bag? I’m sure no one left the party and thought, “Who had that ugly bag again? Oh yeah! CARRIE! What a cheapo!” Lol, no one remembers the wrapping. (That’s why D and I use our local free paper to wrap gifts now. But I understand why you wouldn’t do that for a baby shower.)

I love your list! Especially the bit about cars. I have a co-worker who is living rent free with her sister but is living paycheck to paycheck because of a $430 monthly car payment! That is almost the price of our monthly rent (of course, split in half, I only pay $230 on rent!). I just cannot imagine financing a car. They lose so much value in the first couple of years… Just no. I drove the car I was given when I was 16 (a car that was only a year younger than I am) until my parents literally made me give it up. (It leaked oil and had no airbag. The parents got paranoid.) My dad bought a car for $900 wrecked, fixed it up – total put in about $1,800 – and I’ve been driving that car ever since. I will drive it until it dies for good. And you know what? When I do need another car, I will shop around and buy used. And I will pay in cash or I’ll take the bus until I can afford to do so.

Another of my pet peeves is the utility bill. I’m so good on my own about not running the heat during the winter. I just bundle up in flannel PJs. But D has to always be toasty. My bill has tripled.

I am so with you! Compared to Wal-Mart, Victoria’s Secret gets the job done. I used to swear by them. Then my bras started falling apart! Seriously, the wiring is always poking out the sides, and my boobs are always half-in, half-out. It’s infuriating! Especially since I don’t buy them on sale. I need to find a new brand. ::sigh:: Thank you for letting me get that out.

Lol! This is too funny. I had a $12 balance at the library once before that haunted me. I seriously spent more time worrying about making a special trip to the library to pay off my balance than I worried about my credit card payments.

I think I inherited my mother’s late gene. She cannot be on time for anything – events, movie rental returns, library returns. I’ve done a lot better this time around, but that’s because I cannot bear to think of avoiding the library. It’s my hub for all books, movies and CDs!

I also made the decision not to max out my retirement for next year. While it would be nice, there are so many other things that we want to save for – like buying our own place and getting married. So I think I’m only saving 17% of my net income towards retirement.
